My Lord,

Victoria, Hongkong.

28th August, 1848

I have the honor to bring to Your Lordship's notice the following applications for the resumption of certain lots of land by this Government, which I shall explain in detail.

1st is an application from Messrs Fletcher & Co. for the surrender of Inland lot No. 87 upon which there are three houses—two belonging to the parties are willing to sacrifice rather than pay further rent to the Crown, but the third house, known as Helen's Bank, belonging to the Estate of late Dr. Stewart, is of considerable value, and the Executor to the Estate, Mr. J. Jardine, petitions for a new lease being granted for the ground appertaining to "Helen's Bank".

The Right Honorable, The Earl Grey,
